Vanguard Quebec School

What initially led to the foundation of Vanguard School of Quebec Ltd. was the search by a parent for a school offering services adapted to students with serious learning difficulties.

That parent was Mr. Paul E Zimmerman who, unable to find such services in the Montreal region, sent his son to continue his studies in a Vanguard school in the United States.

Having witnessed the lack of adequate services locally and the quality of such services in the United States, Mr. Zimmerman enlisted the help of Doctor Samuel Rabinovitch who worked at McGill's Education Faculty and the Montreal's Children Hospital. Together they launched a project to bring a Vanguard School to Montreal to offer services adapted to elementary and high school students who have serious learning difficulties.

A team of organizations was brought together to make the project a success. Vanguard Schools in America provided support and guidance. The Montreal Protestant School Board (PSBGM) along with a McGill University representative acted as consultants and offered invaluable help. Financial contributions came from Quebec private enterprises to support the school's material and operational needs.
